This is the standard tourist visa. A type C visa can be issued for a total stay of 90 days within a 180-day period, and entitles the holder to enter and reside in the Schengen area.
Schengen countries: Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Greece, Spain, France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden; and non-EU Member States Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland.
Passport and Visa requirements
The CIMUSET Conference Vienna 2024 organiser can provide official invitations to delegates upon request. These invitations do not entail any financial obligations from the Local Organizer. Before your appointment, it is recommended that you contact the embassy to find out which documents are required for obtaining a visa. The following details are required for an official invitation:
- Your full name
- Date of birth
- Place of birth
- Country of citizenship (the country that issued your passport)
- Passport number
- Date of expiry of your passport
After submitting all the required information, the invitation letter will be sent as a PDF file to your email.
Austria is a member of the European Community and the economic and currency unions, adopting the Euro (€) as its common currency.

The following Euro banknotes and coins are in circulation:
- Bank notes of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 Euros
- Coins of 1 and 2 Euros, and 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 Cents (1 Euro = 100 Cents.)
Credit Card
The most popular credits are usually accepted in Vienna, although sometimes their use is subject to a minimum purchase amount. You can use your Maestro card (bank ATM card) almost everywhere – especially in shops – even for small amounts.
Cash dispensers, which are everywhere in the city, allow you to withdraw cash with the most common debit and credit cards.
Currency Exchange
Most banks in Vienna are open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 12.30 pm, from 12:30 pm to 3 pm, and until 5.30 pm on Thursdays. Almost all banks are open over lunchtime in the city centre (1st district).
A tip is traditionally given in many service areas, such as restaurants, taxis, hairdressers, serviced filling stations, etc. This is normally 5 to 10 per cent, with the exact amount depending on the level of satisfaction with the service provided.
Please take a look at the bill. If the tip is already included, do not pay it again.
Austria uses Schuko / Type F sockets. This is the same 2-pin system as in much of continental Europe, including Germany, Greece, Portugal, Sweden, Italy, and Spain.
These sockets take the equivalent 2-pin Schuko or Type F plug, but are also compatible with the Europlug and the CEE 7/7 plug.
The standard voltage is 230 V at a frequency of 50 Hz.
